Historical & Statistical Support

One of the main reasons for the opposition of the first attempt at the LHD back in 1971 was the lack of evidence that it would accomplish any clear benefit for Newburyport.

Since then, there has been many studies done all across the country – in particular in New York City and in its birthplace, Charleston, South Carolina.      These have shown clear benefits from an LHD and proof that it is a powerful tool to economically and culturally lift a community and to keep it lifted.

Be sure to be there on Thursday to help support the Study Committee’s very long and very hard work!
